This is a high quality item manufactured specifically to sit on top of the Breville Smart Oven. It is a little smaller than the top of the oven. It is designed to be offset from the front edge of the oven (to avoid heat damage when opening door)and can be used when the oven is on. I purchased mine directly from Breville and ended up paying considerably more than what Amazon is charging. I find this item to be almost essential for my new Breville 800XL oven. I like to keep the pizza pan and broiling rack on top of the oven for convenience but don't wont to scuff up the beautiful brushed stainless finish of the oven. The bamboo wood is extremely well-finished, actually nearly perfect. I am almost reluctant to use it as a cutting board as to not deface it!
The feet (plastic with silicone) are shaped such that they fit PERFECTLY into the grooves on the oven top so it would not slide around. The feet also raise the board slightly above the oven top for proper ventilation. Because of this, simply laying a generic cutting board on top as a substitute would not work. Furthermore, if you were to try and stick on some makeshift feet to a generic cutting board, the feet would have to be made of silicone (plastic and rubber would melt). Not sure where you would even find silicone feet. In this case, you might as well buy the Breville board and save yourself the trouble of making one yourself.

This is an excellent addition to the Breville Smart Oven. It fits very nicely to the top of the oven and makes it look nicer. It allows for things that might be damaged by the heat (plastic) to be placed on top of the oven without worry. This is particularly helpful if one has minimal space and needs to be able to use this space to put heat-sensitive items. It is high quality.

I purchased my Breville BOV800CB Bamboo Cutting Board for Use with Smart Oven specifically for the top of my Breville BOV800XL The Smart Oven 1800-Watt Convection Toaster Oven with Element IQ. I don't use it as a cutting board, but it also makes a nice serving tray with the provided carved handles and the silicone feet.
The oven gets quite hot and the board not only offers heat protection, but gives the oven a nice finished look. While the board doesn't cover the entire top surface of the Breville BOV800XL, it does cover it significantly well. The Breville inscription and warning to keep the door closed, while the oven is in use, on mine was even and nicely done on each of the two long edges (front and back) - and looks nice. Although, I question why Beville saw the need for the warning on the board when they don't provide the board as a part of the oven package. The board itself is protected from the oven heat by four sturdy silicone feet that separate it approximately 1/2 inch from the top of the oven. Care is simply washing and oiling the board periodically using mild soap and water, and re-oiling it. I just use a vegetable oil such as olive oil and since the bamboo is a natural barrier to bacteria, it has never had any odor - and I've only washed and oiled it twice in a years time since I only use it for an insulating top on the oven. The design of the oven and the silicone feet help keep the board squarely in place on the top of the Breville BOV800XL oven.
For aesthetic value on the oven, and heat protection from the top of the oven, the board is worth the price - but, for implied service as a cutting board and serving tray of its size, it is well over priced. My feeling is Beville should include this board with the oven instead of the pans they provide with the oven. The board does look "smart" on the Breville BOV800XL smart oven. This accessory is one you will want for your Breville BOV800XL - for the finished look and protection from the heat of the oven top surface.
Dimensions of the board are roughly: 17 3/4-inches x 10-inches x 3/4-inches (not including the roughly 1/2-inch silicone feet that bring the board height to about 1 1/4-inches above the Breville BOV800XL when it is sitting correctly in position on the oven)
***NOTE***
Breville makes two differently sized cutting boards to fit their ovens. Make sure you get the one sized for your Breville oven. Be sure to check the product numbers before a purchase.

I use cutting boards all the time, and they've always eaten up space on my countertop. This cutting board is so handy because it slides away inconspicuously on top of the Breville toaster oven when it's not in use. It is a good size to work with, it is attractive, it has a good hard surface on which to cut, and I really like the rubber feet that keep it from sliding. Overall, a great purchase!
